The scrubber is used in many industries like oil, petroleum, refineries, chemical industries, polymer industries, rubber industries to control pollution and purify the exhaust stream.
It's used for pollution control and also for heat recovery from exhaust gases.
Liquid or reactants are called a scrubbing solutions. Here direct contact between flue gases and scrubbing solutions is applied.
What is a scrubber?
The scrubber is a device to remove unwanted particular matters or pollution creating particles which is harmful to the environment and human being. It's used for pollution control and also for heat recovery from exhaust gases.
Working of scrubber?
Contacting flue gases with liquid or reactants which remove pollutants by trapped in a liquid or neutralized by reactants.Liquid or reactants are called a scrubbing solutions. Here direct contact between flue gases and scrubbing solutions is applied.
Types of scrubbers
There are two types of scrubbers based on the scrubbing solution is used.- Wet scrubbers
- Dry scrubbers
Wet Scrubbers
- In this type of scrubber scrubbing solution liquid is used.
- Flue gas in contact with liquid and absorbs or traps pollutants in liquid droplets and then it is removed.
- Flue gases come from the bottom and liquid generally water is spray from the top.
- Hereby spraying of liquid we get maximum contact of liquid droplets with flue gases.
- Sometimes with the liquid water-specific chemicals are also added to remove specific pollutants.
Dry Scrubbers
- Dry reactants are used to remove pollutants. Dry scrubbers are used mostly for acidic pollutants.
- Reactants sprayed from top and contact with flue gases and react with flue gases and give other substances.
- Sometimes it only neutralized harmful pollutants. Here a selection of reactants is based on which specific pollutants need to remove.
